Adoption Workshop

As children who have been adopted grow and change, so do their thoughts and feelings related to adoption. Our team has designed a 12-week curriculum for adopted children (ages 8-13) and their parents to help address the changing thoughts and feelings.

Parents explore the adoptive family’s story and how adoption can impact a child’s behaviors, development, concept of self, and the family as a whole. The experiential workshop will help build a sense of community among the attending adoptive families and provide support, as well as practical tools to help parents navigate the ups and downs of parenting.

The child workshop helps children who are adopted connect to others with shared experiences.  Throughout the weeks, participants will explore their adoption stories, strengthen their ability to communicate with their parents, and identify thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in a supportive, safe, and fun environment.

Topics covered in this workshop include:

  • Identity
  • Feelings
  • Safety
  • Thoughts, Feelings and Behaviors
  • Communication
  • Grief/Loss
  • Advocacy
  • Self-Care

Prior to their weekly classes, families enjoy a meal together while building relationships with other adoptive families in the area. This group is led by clinicians and individuals with real life experience who were in foster care/adopted.

Check out our Current Events page to find out when the next Adoption Workshop will be offered in your area.
